At a glance

Are you socially skilled, curious and interested in financial markets? Have you always wanted to work on the largest trading floor in continental Europe? Then the Markets Traineeship is right for you! You will work on the best deals for our clients and guide them in the complex world of financial instruments. Apply now for the Markets traineeship for a start in March 2024.

Working environment

Working at ABN AMRO means becoming even better at what you do. We understand our clients, translate their ambitions into joint successes and earn their trust. We want our clients to understand our products. That's why we sometimes say 'no' when the risk for the client is too big. Banking is our profession, the world is our challenge.

Markets is at the heart of ABN AMRO. We advise clients on the purchase and sale of financial products and services, such as securities or currencies. We also assist clients with an IPO or the issuance of bonds. We carry out transactions from our offices in Amsterdam, New York, Frankfurt, London and Paris.

Your role

As a trainee within the Markets department, you are interested in what is happening in the world and financial markets and how this influences the needs of our clients, products and the bank. It goes without saying that during the traineeship you will have a lot of room to develop yourself, both personally and professionally.

During your first 5 weeks at ABN AMRO you will follow the Corporate Banking talent program together with your fellow trainees at Nyenrode. During this period you will get to know the corporate bank better from the inside out. In addition to a broad introduction to ABN AMRO, you will participate in trainings in the field of Financial Markets, Financial Analysis, Financial Modeling, Corporate Banking, Credit Risk and Personal Development. The trainings are provided by experts who belong to the top of their field. Together they offer you a solid basis to further develop yourself within the bank. At the same time you build an international network of fellow trainees in different parts of the corporate bank. The perfect start to your career!

After the Nyenrode training, you start in the rotation program to get to know the Markets department better. In the first year of the traineeship you will build strong product knowledge, learn what our different teams do and follow a pre-defined rotation schedule to find out where your interests lie. In the second year you build your own schedule according to your talents and personal interest. You can use the experience you have gained to rotate in New York, London, Paris or Frankfurt. You will also have the opportunity to broaden your horizon by doing a rotation in another department within the Corporate Bank. After 24 months you are ready for a position within Markets that matches your skills and ambitions.

Possible rotations:

  • Fixed Income & Derivatives (FID) Sales & Trading: Dive into the world of interest rate products and derivatives and improve your technical skills with one of our FID Trading teams. Learn to structure financial products for institutional and corporate clients.
  • Foreign Exchange Sales & Trading: Emerge yourself in the rapidly changing world of foreign exchange (FX). Help to improve our (electronic) FX trading platforms and understand how our FX Sales team serves our clients
  • Debt Capital Markets (DCM): You are involved in a wide range of DCM transactions such as bond issues from corporate and financial institutions, securitisations and syndicated loans
  • Equity Capital Markets (ECM): Participate in important strategic transactions such as IPOs, share issues and rights issues
  • Product Management & Strategy: Gain unique insights into the strategic choices for Markets in alignment with the broader ABN AMRO strategy

As your role is constantly changing, you will learn a lot in a short time. With all the knowledge you gain, you guarantee yourself a solid basis for a great career at ABN AMRO.
